Heather and Mike came all the way from New York for a trip through Europe.
Visiting Mike’s relatives, a romantic stay in Schwangau with a proposal at Castle Neuschwanstein, and traveling through Italy and the Dolomites, showing Heather parts of his past.
Planning the Photoshooting, ahead of time
He reached out to me beforehand, and we chatted in a video call a little bit about his proposal: that he wanted to do it at the front gate of the castle, and what I can offer and recommend.
We decided on a casual, candid photoshoot afterwards, in the midday hours, after they checked out of their hotel in Hohenschwangau and before heading towards Italy.
Meeting and starting the Photoshoot – a relaxed time in a special surrounding in Füssen and Schwangau
After the start got delayed a bit, we met at a nearby parking spot and walked for about 10 minutes to the first spot we decided on beforehand, where we started our photoshoot.
Both of them were easy-going from the beginning; they enjoyed their time, the weather, the vacation feeling, and the special day.
Capturing your engagement: Candid couple-Photoshooting in front of castle Neuschwanstein
Freshly engaged, they moved around, walked, danced, twirled, were happy and playful.
We incorporated different angles, a nearby hut with a wooden wall, and on the way back some logs, which were a good opportunity for some more cuddly pictures.
Choosing their favorite images afterwards, back home
In the picture reveal, they decided on 12 beautiful, modern, and timeless pictures, which showcase their special time in Bavaria, with Castle Neuschwanstein in the background.

I often photograph couples from abroad during their proposal. Having to hide and act normal so that I don’t draw any attention towards me, but being ready and capturing all the important moments, is always a challenge for me.
The couples often come late, because one part doesn´t know about the other ones plans, so that I have to wait for a uncertain time.
This time, it was a different and more relaxed process: we met at the parking spot, had a little chat while walking to the first location, I had enough time to explain everything:
The start, as well as the whole photoshoot, was easy-going and much more casual than normally.
A good preparation, having different locations ready for you to choose from, a video call ahead of time to get to know you and your ideas, as well as an open and fast e-mail conversation is always important for me.
